well, it's been a minute
Understatement. I haven’t written here since last year. Oof.
Basically, the start of this year was an absolute whirlwind. We ended up buying a new-to-us house and moving, and then there were just a thousand and one things to do. We moved into an awesome 1960s house in our favorite part of our town, but it’s a 1960s house, so there’s been a steady stream of projects squeezed in between work, school and sports for Oliver, seeing family and friends, and even trying to carve out a little bit of downtime this summer.
Case in point - the plumbing. Two days in, I was at our old place painting to get it ready for rent when my partner called, saying that when he flushed the toilet, a geyser of water shot up in our shower. Turns out that while we knew we had old pipes, not everything we’d been told was “fixed” was actually done. After a few visits from the plumber and brand-new toilets installed across the entire house, I’ve learned more about cast iron pipes than I ever wanted to know. And if you ever visit, yes, we use thin toilet paper. Not because we’re cheap, we just have old pipes. 😉
Now, with another school year just a couple of weeks away, I’m feeling as settled as I can at this point, and am trying to jump back in.
Last year, my writing here was mostly spent on the backstory to what led to adoption and divorce, but I’m eager to get into more in the months ahead. So, if you’ve been here since the beginning, or are just diving in, welcome or welcome back. Let me know if there’s anything in particular you’d like me to write about. I’m looking forward to getting into coparenting, working mom life, and more. Next up, I’ll be writing about relationships after divorce: not the dating-again part, but the harder part. Learning how to trust someone new. Letting myself be vulnerable again after spending more than half my life with one person. It’s a topic I’ve been sitting with for a while, and I think I’m finally ready to write about it honestly.
I’m so glad you’re here, and I’m so sorry I left for a bit.
Honestly,
Theresa
